Pattern/Marking Scheme of CSIR-NET Exam

Hello readers. It is Praveen Chhikara. It is very important to know the pattern and marking scheme of the exam. I have seen that, the candidates, who appear for the exam first time, have not so much idea about it. In this post, I try to collect all the points related to it. I think it would help.

The exam has three parts, viz., A, B and C.

Part A :

  1. It consists of 20 Multiple-choice questions, out of which only 15 attempted questions would be evaluated.
  2. Each correct reponse to a question carries 2 marks, while an incorrect choice would lead to (NEGATIVE) 0.5 marks.
  3. The questions are asked from General Aptitude with emphasis on logical reasoning, graphical analysis, analytical and numerical ability, quantitative comparison, series formation, puzzles etc(as the notification says).

Part B :

  1. It consists of 40 Multiple-choice questions, out of which only 25 attempted. questions would be evaluated.
  2. Each correct reponse to a question carries 3 marks, while an incorrect choice would lead to (NEGATIVE) 0.75 marks.
  3. The questions in this part are subject-related conventional MCQs, generally covering the topics given in the syllabus.

Part C:

  1. It consists of 60 Multiple-choice questions, out of which only 20 attempted. questions would be evaluated.
  2. Each correct reponse to a question carries 4.75 marks. There is NO NEGATIVE marking in this part.
  3. The part contains higher value questions that may test the candidate’s knowledge of scientific concepts and/or application of the scientific concepts. The questions shall be of analytical nature where a candidate is expected to apply the scientific knowledge to arrive at the solution to the given scientific problem.

Note 1: Negative marking for wrong answers, wherever required, shall be applicable as per subject wise scheme of Exam.

Note 2: If a question for any reason found wrong, the benefit of marks will be given to only those candidates who attempt the question. On review of representations by the subject experts, if it is found that along with the original answer key one more option(s) is correct then marks will be awarded to all those candidates who have attempted any one of the correct options.
